I've eaten with friends and colleagues in all these restaurants in (greater) Bangkok. I'm no food expert, but I do know what I like! Many of my older reviews were also published in Japanese on newsclip.be タイ発ニュース速報. Whether you're after Thai food, or craving a Mexican taco, Japanese buffet or fish & chips, you can find it all here.

Loved the art on the wall and had an excellent meal. There wasn't a lot of choice though and the portions weren't very big.

Nice garden setting, interesting (condom) theme and shop. Food is too much to foreign taste and hardly tastes like Thai food at all. It isn't bad but it just isn't it.

Im Jang Restaurant (อิ่มจัง)

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar half.svgStar empty.svgStar empty.svg Looking for but not finding our favourite street stall, we ended up having a quick meal in this simple Thai restaurant named Im Jang, which means "very full".

The place is decorated simply with dark wooden tables and stools, food photos on the wall and colourful decorations. There's no air-conditioning. After we sat down the place filled up quickly with what looked like Thai tourists, other Asians and some foreigners.

The restaurant is make-to-order, so you can have whatever you fancy. We had

Yakiniku Giants (ไจแอนท์)

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar empty.svgStar empty.svg If you're looking for a good quality fixed-price Japanese buffet, this is the place to go.

Located inside the Citi Resort (serviced apartments) building, Giants is fitted with light wooden furniture, and you can choose between regular tables with pillowed benches and lower tables where you take off your shoes and sit on pillows on the floor.

Most tables were occupied when we went there and we did notice some giants enjoying a big meal.

Being with 2 big guys we ordered many different dishes. Absolute winners were

Ikea Restaurant, Mega Bangna, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan **

When Ikea opened its first store in Thailand last week we went there right away to have a look. The area is going to be the new mall "Mega Bangna", but only the Ikea is ready at the moment.

The location is a bit out of the way, but for the first 6 months there is a free shuttle bus from BTS Udomsuk and Central Bangna. We had lunch in the self-service Ikea restaurant, which looks the same as always with Ikea decorations and furniture. As it was just after the opening, the place was quite crowded and the queues were long, but we didn't have to carry our own trays as there are little trolleys to put them on.

The menu is not very extensive but old favourites like the Swedish meatballs and marinated salmon can of course be found. The salmon served with lettuce and mustard sauce was delicious; the meatballs with cranberry sauce and small potatoes were okay but heavy, and kept coming back the whole afternoon. Soft drinks, ice teas and coffees are refill, so once you've bought your cup you can drink as much as you like. For dessert we tried the blueberry cheese cake (still a bit frozen) and a cinnamon bun, both of which were good. They serve some special kids meals, and there are lots of toys and activities to keep them busy while you are eating.

There's also a little fast food snack bar downstairs where you can get cheap hotdogs (if they haven't run out of buns like that day), drinks and ice cream. We also went to the food shop, but besides lots of cookies, crackers, chocolate and frozen food there's not much to be had yet. I was so looking forward to the pickled herring, but I guess I'll have to wait! A good place for a not too expensive Western meal after your shopping session.
