I've eaten with friends and colleagues in all these restaurants in (greater) Bangkok. I'm no food expert, but I do know what I like! Many of my older reviews were also published in Japanese on newsclip.be タイ発ニュース速報. Whether you're after Thai food, or craving a Mexican taco, Japanese buffet or fish & chips, you can find it all here. (2016: I'm adding my Tripadvisor reviews here)

* A friendly WARNING: restaurants close, change and move regularly, so before you go make sure to check *

Brown Coffee *** [CLOSED]

On my way to the express boat from the Grand Palace I ran into this little restaurant at the Tha Chang pier.

The tables inside view the pier and the Chao Praya River, the outside terrace has an inwards view of the little shops at the pier.

The windows are big, the wooden furniture is simple in dark brown, and the decoration is a range of old photos of Bangkok.

Na Pralan [closed]

The restaurant promotes itself as an art restaurant and is popular with the SU art students and lecturers for a morning coffee or a beer after class. There is old-style wooden furniture and lots of art on the walls on both floors, which provide for a pleasant atmosphere.

On the menu a selection of simple Thai dishes, a few Western dishes and ice cream for dessert.

Tak Sura @ Victory Monument (ตักสุรา)

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar empty.svg One of the many branches of Tak Sura is located not even 100 meters from the busy Victory Monument.

Like all Tak Sura branches it's an old-style restaurant, this branch in a teakwood house with wooden floors and furniture from a variety of older times. Dark, intimate environment, although you shouldn't sit to close to the speakers :-( Inside there are a few rooms, each with a number of tables, outside a garden and a terrace annex tree house with lots of seats
