I've eaten with friends and colleagues in all these restaurants in (greater) Bangkok. I'm no food expert, but I do know what I like! Many of my older reviews were also published in Japanese on newsclip.be タイ発ニュース速報. Whether you're after Thai food, or craving a Mexican taco, Japanese buffet or fish & chips, you can find it all here. (2016: I'm adding my Tripadvisor reviews here)

* A friendly WARNING: restaurants close, change and move regularly, so before you go make sure to check *

The Stories (Prachachoen), Nonthaburi

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar half.svgStar empty.svg We celebrated a friend’s birthday at this pub-restaurant at Prachachuen in the northern outskirts of Bangkok.

It’s quite a high-class and luxury place, with fashionable and pretty design, wooden terraces at different levels, with a variety of wooden and old-style iron furniture. There are little fountains all over the place and a small decorative pool in front of the stage where various life bands perform during the evening (English and Thai songs).

Madrid

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar half.svgStar empty.svg Madrid, opened in 1969, is one of the oldest restaurants in Patpong and has always been popular with Bangkok expats. Once in a while one can spot a really old one that must’ve been coming here since the Vietnam war.

The old-style interior is Spanish-inspired and sports at least one bullfighter poster. The booths for 4 are intimate but small if you want to eat; the bar is spacier.

The Thai and foreign food are good (try the Caesar salad and quesadilla!) and drinks not too expensive. It seems to be famous for its great pizza,

Agalico Gardens and Tea Room

Star full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar full.svgStar empty.svg A friend once took me to this very classy place for a high tea, and some time later another friend organised his wedding reception here.

The mostly white furniture and decorations are in old European style and most of it is for sale. There's a very beautiful English city garden outside with an air-conditioned (!) gazebo. The place opens only Fri - Sun during the day.
